LEED is a national certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to encourage the construction of energy and resource-efficient buildings that are healthy to live in. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. USGBC established LEED as a way to define and measure “green buildings.” to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design . The system is credit-based, allowing projects to earn points for environmentally friendly actions taken during construction and use of a building.
